Tenacia® Wine
Tenacia® is the Italian word for tenacity. We named the wine to represent our determination and persistence over many years to build a terraced vineyard on our hillside, and then manage the vineyard throughout the seasons, with the dream of producing a barrel of wine with just the grapes from this home vineyard. 2017 was the first year that grapes were harvested from the hillside. Although the yield was low in the first harvest, 2017 and every vintage of Tenacia® contains grapes from the Alessi Vineyard. The yield improved every year as the vines matured and we learned how to best take care of them. 2023 and 2024 vintages of Tenacia® are made exclusively from grapes harvested from the Alessi vineyard. The latest harvest, on September 15, 2024, was the best yield from the terraces ever, at 0.64 ton (1,280 lbs). Our wine is unique in that although it contains more than one varietal, none of our wines are blended; the varietals are co-fermented. The 2023 and 2024 vintages that will include only the Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in our vineyard will be produced by co-fermenting. Although the proportion of vines in the vineyard is approximately 50% Sangiovese and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, the yield of grapes in weight is not in the same proportion. Sangiovese vines produce clusters that are generally larger and denser than Cabernet Sauvignon clusters, resulting in a weight proportion at harvest of approximately 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.
2023 Tenacia® was bottled in July 2025.
Our wine is produced and bottled in Napa, California at Judd's Hill in their "Microcrush" program.
